2016 - The Unpublished Moments & Thoughts

Matt is constantly shooting film photos on top of the digital photos we shoot for the blog, so I thought it would be fun to share some unedited moments from 2016 to wrap up the year.

I spent the vast majority of this year pregnant, and even with the discomforts and my total dislike for being pregnant, this has hands-down been my best year ever. No doubt about it. After so many years of changes and job switches and moves and feeling unsettled, it was the first year where a lot of things stayed the same over here. I continued to work my full-time job at letgo, we lived in the same home that we moved into in October of 2015, and I continued to blog over here.

Most of my energy was put into reading about the tiny person I was growing, and making sure that I stayed healthy. I physically feel great, and mentally I feel really really changed in a good way. This year took my world, and turned it emotionally upside down (I guess becoming a mom does that to us!) My heart grew 1,000 different sizes, and suddenly the world looks completely different. I truly can't think about my life, and life in general without tearing up. The universe is a beautiful and ugly place, but it's been really good to us in 2016. It's been a hard year for women, politics and the world around us, but I still believe and have hope for the good in the world.

Which brings me to this - Thank you for being so good to me, and to my family, all of you out there who read here and care. You all make the world better, and I am forever grateful for your continued support throughout the years. I couldn't be where I am in my life if it wasn't for this blog, or for you.

I was telling Matt yesterday how wild it is that the year Hudson was born is ending. I was born in 1987, and while I don't know much about that year, or even where my parents were on their first New Years Eve as parents, it's a year that I mention thousands of times. It's funny to think that Hudson will live his life sharing that he was born in the year 2016. He'll maybe wonder where his parents were on his first New Years when he has a baby someday and starts to think about those things.

I am so happy and thankful to tell him that we're with our two best friends in the world, and that we are content and lucky and that life is sweet. I love you guys, have a wonderful night and be safe. See you in 2017!

Asheville, NC // Interchangeable Straps For Travel

Hello from Asheville, NC! We've been making our way down to Florida for a New Years Eve bonfire at our best friends' house, with a few fun stops along the way. We spent a night in this adorable "moonbeam" cabin, cozied up by the fire. I absolutely love road trips, but the toughest part for me is packing light for the journey. I always want to bring tons of different shoes and bags along (because of course fun outfits in different cities makes the adventure even better!)

I was so excited to discover the Patricia Nash Strap Happy collection at Macy's, making it easy to pack only one purse with a ton of fun options of different straps for the trip! I am so in love with this Monte Viso strap, and I adore how it looks paired with some classic stripes. I also brought the studded leather version along for a more laid back look.

Thank you all so much for your suggestions of things to do in Asheville! A few of our favorite things were:

1. Wicked Weed Brewery: Matt is a huge fan of sour beers, and we loved hanging outside at this brewery and trying out the different sours!

2. Double D's: The cutest coffee and dessert place, in a double decker bus! I had a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a coffee, and it was just what the doctor ordered.

3. Log Cabin motor court: We had such a fun stay here, and loved the cozy vibe of the cabins!

4. Asheville Brewing company: We shared a pizza here and it was delicious!

We'll be in Florida for the next month, and I'm excited to share tons of our adventures!

Snow Day Look

It doesn't seem like it's going to be a white Christmas, but luckily we did get to see some snow before we leave for Miami for a month! It was glorious, and we snapped these on the short walk into the diner (don't worry, I didn't freeze because I was not outside for too long!)

By the way, yes we are heading to Miami right after Christmas! We are road tripping the entire way down, staying at some places along the way! We'll be posting on instagram as we drive, so make sure to follow along!

4 Affordable Holiday Looks

1 & 2. The Holiday Party: Sometimes you just need a classic red dress. It works every year, at every holiday party! I've worn this one to a few already.

2.  The Casual Get Together:
You know, a few festive beers or eggnog at a friends house. We all have those holiday nights!

3. The City Day: For that day you walk around town viewing Christmas lights, and last-minute shopping.

A Gift Under $50 For The Person Who Has It All

Some people are tough to shop for! You don't want to spend TOO much, but also don't want to get them some techy gadget that is a bust. Last year I got Matt an oreo cookie coffee warmer, and it ended up not working!! I was so upset.

Here's the perfect holiday gift for everyone, that anyone with an iPhone (so everyone!) can use and benefit from - the OtterBox uniVERSE Case System. There's so many cool things about this case system, I literally don't know where to start. Here's some of the best things about it...

Not only does the case protect your phone, but it transforms it so you can turn your phone into a pro camera, a cash register for payment or a backup battery. So after you gift someone the case, they can then add tons of extras to their phone, like an extra battery pack, expandable memory from ScanDisk, a bluetooth speaker or a special olloclip 4-in-1 camera lens with a tripod to take better pictures with their phone. The best part is that uniVERSE keeps expanding and adding new accessories, so they can continue to add extra gadgets to their phone! There are cases available for the iPhone 6, 6s, 6 Plus, 6s Plus, 7 and 7 Plus.

The uniVERSE case system is available on, and at Best Buy stores! Happy shopping!

NYC Holiday Party Look

It feels so great to be able to get dressed up and head out for a night on the town again, after being uncomfortable and pregnant for what felt like forever! I've become a pro at wearing Hudson out, so we can still enjoy holiday parties & events, and he LOVES it and sleeps the entire time on me. The noise is so soothing for him! Plus, it's funny how much everyone enjoys seeing a baby out in the world. I make new friends everywhere I go.

I wore this to the Local 600 film union holiday party for Matt's work. I've been trying to make the most of all of my festive clothing in the last few days before Christmas! This Boden sweater was my favorite find for this year, and I've owned this skirt for what feels like forever now (see it styled here). T-minus 4 days!!

Choosing The One with Bugaboo

Bringing Hudson home from the hospital is a day I will never ever forget. I get teary eyed just thinking about it. It was November 9th, the morning after the presidential election results were announced. The sky was overcast, but the trees were beautiful fall colors outside of our hospital room window. As we drove home, my eyes were peeled on Hudson as I sat next to him in the back seat, and the fall trees whizzed by us as we drove on the Meadowbrook Pkwy. I couldn't believe he was ours.

Right when we walked in the door, I breastfed Hudson in our living room. Then I walked him into his room, and told him this was his space to grow and to live. I placed him in his swing in my room, and for the first time in months, put on my non-maternity clothes. Then we bundled up Hudson, placed him in his Bugaboo Cameleon3 Classic Collection stroller in Grey Melange that we had been dying to use for so long (I tested it out with Claude, because I was so excited), and we met my cousin Samantha outside our door for a very short walk on the boardwalk. It was our baby's first walk, his first time in his stroller, our first time in the world as his parents. We had walked the boardwalk, and the streets of Long Beach so many times while I was pregnant and it was a place I had spent my entire life in, and finally I could share it with my baby. I've watched moms walk the boardwalk and wondered when my time would come to be in their shoes, and here it was. It came in the blink of an eye!

I was so happy that we spent the proper amount of time researching strollers and carseats before bringing Hudson into his home. The process of picking such important baby gear felt very overwhelming as a first time mom, and it was a definite learning curve. By coming home prepared and ready-to-go with our Bugaboo, I felt like I had a little bit of control in a situation with so many new unknowns. Half the fun of our first walk in the world with Hudson was finally getting to try out the stroller that I had put so much time into researching! I absolutely love how cozied up and safe Hudson is when he rides in his Cameleon3 bassinet. It's usually pretty windy on the boardwalk, but when he's in the stroller he doesn't even feel it.

I also LOVE that Hudson's carseat, the Maxi Cosi, connects into the stroller. It makes life so much easier for running local errands. Our first walk will always hold a special place in my heart, and I cannot wait for so many more as our little family of 3 now!
